Great Authors #1

Great Authors #1

 Erin Hunter, author of Warriors.

The information about this author comes from the Warriors website.

To learn more about Erin Hunter, click on meet Erin Hunter. Don't forget to explore the site!

Yes, Erin Hunter is actually more than one person! Kate, Cherith, Victoria, and Tui are the authors of Warriors, Seekers, and Survivors.

Victoria loves cats- but she likes dogs and horses even more. She has a pet dog. Victoria grew up on a farm with cats. The most memorable cats were a brother-sister pair named Tinkerbell and Stripes. She would like to be Cinderpelt, a character in the Warriors books.

Cherith owns cats that are the real Brambleclaw and Sorreltail, also characters in the Warriors books. She'd also like to be Cinderpelt!

Kate has three cute cats. Their names are Willow, Miu-Miu, and Flower. The three cats like to sleep on Warriors manuscripts. Kate likes the character Ravenpaw because he is always there in time to save the day. She would like to be the charactor Runningwind. He never gets tired. But she would also like to be Tigerstar- although he is evil, because she has always been interested in the villainous charactors.

Tui has a little yorkie-poodle named Sunshine who likes to chase tennis balls, run obstacle courses, and romp in the snow! Tui also thinks Sunshine is a perfect little genius. Tui likes Brackenfur and Jayfeather. She would love to be Feathertail.

Warriors is about cats- in the wild. My favorites are Tawnypelt and Brightheart, though Hollyleaf has a place in my heart. There are four warrior clans. Thunderclan. Riverclan. Windclan. Shadowclan.

Seekers is about bears trying to save the wild. Their names are Kallik, Lusa, Toklo, and Ujurak.

Survivors is about dogs. All the humans are gone. Just the other animals are left. It tells the story of Lucky, a lone dog and his good friends.

Summertime.

Summer is here! School's out and now I have more time to myself. Here are some fun summer activities.
Being crafty

  • Tend a garden. How does a garden grow? Find out when you spend time outdoors in a garden. Find a public garden and sit and relax, or grow your own flower garden or veggie garden in your own backyard!
  • The big outdoors. Don't forget your sunscreen! Go to the beach, Farmer's Market, local playground, festival, or pool for buckets of fun!
  • Crafty You need supplies first! Have fun crafting your way to fall! I strongly recommend duct tape, popsicle sticks, or Origami.
  • Draw My favorite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Want to be an artist, like me? Practice! I love to draw cats, my favorite animal.
  • Read Try a new series! I love to read the Warriors series by Erin Hunter. Try them!

The American Textile History Museum

When I went to the American Textile History Museum I did lots of things. I saw a pretty glowing dress. The dress was really yellow, but it glowed different colors when the lights went on. The museum had a little room with things in it to make it look like general store from the eighteenth century. It had questions about life at that time and you looked around the store to answer them. The museum had pictures and stories about people who worked in mills in the nineteenth century. There was one section of the museum that talked about baseballs. Did you know that baseballs have wool inside of them? There was a really interesting video that talked all about baseballs and how to test them to make sure nobody messed them up or "juiced" them. One part of the museum had all different types of old kites. It talked about people who invented the first flying machines. Those are some of the great things I saw inside the American Textile History Museum.

The Art Of Paper folding: Origami

"What's Origami?"
You might say. Well,I've got the answers.Just read closely.

Origami is from Japan.(Probably Ancient Japan, but I'm not sure.) It is folding paper to get different shapes (depending on what you choose) , different sizes and colors (depending on the paper you choose.) The crane is the most popular.

Here is the rule of Origami. No cutting, ripping, gluing, or taping.

If you want to learn more about Origami go to Wikipedia

Envelopes

Do you like to share notes with your friends? Here's a fun way to make envelopes to use for correspondence.

Materials: square paper, markers, tape and maybe stickers

Step 1. Fold your square piece of paper in half along the diagonal
Step 2. Unfold it and then fold along the other diagonal
Step 3. Unfold it and fold in all four corners to the center dot (made by the x you folded into the paper)
Step 4. Tape three of the flaps you've created closed
Step 5. Write your name on the front
Step 6. On the open flap, make a list of things to write about to keep your friend from getting stuck without ideas
Step 7. Decorate your envelope
Step 8. Trade with friends
Step 9. Start writing notes and crafts you can slip in your friends envelope and then return to her!

My babysitter and I made these yesterday. I already made lots of notes and crafts to give to her.

American Girl at Barnes and Noble

One Wednesday night each month, my local Barnes and Noble has an American Girl book club. They talk about the American Girls. They have crafts for the American Girl that is featured that month. The lady who runs it is very nice. This month the topic was McKenna, the Girl of the Year. She inspires her friends to do things that they are nervous about. She helps her friends practice and encourages them by saying things such as, "You can do it!" McKenna is a gymnast. She helps her friend who is a gymnast too by encouraging her. I look forward to reading the book. The things that Barnes and Noble gave me were crafts and other activities that I could take home.

Barnes and Noble is a nice place to sit, relax, read or have fun.
